SAD
Seasonal affective disorder affects a lot of people throughout the world and it usually happens during the winter because it gets cold and it gets dark early outside; which causes certain people to get sad and want to avoid stepping out because of the sudden change in the weather.
Although all of that is justifiable but there’s also “Summer bleus” which is when someone gets more sad during the summer than the winter which is backwards but that’s what I have deal with. I love winter and I don’t feel bad for staying home whenever I want to but when it’s sunny outside and hot suddenly I feel pressured to go out but truly I just want to be home so now I feel bad; most of my saddest days have been during the hot and sunny days… I don’t know what the science is behind it and why the summer affects me that way but truly one thing that I find helpful is to let myself take breaks. I will hang out whenever I feel up for it and stay home without guilt tripping myself into going out because I know taking a break is like a self care for me.
If you struggle with summer bleus then don’t feel ashamed because a ton of people struggle with it and they might not even know it because we always believe that SAD occurs during the winter but that is not always the case; it comes at any given season even during the fall and spring. Try to understand your triggers, take breaks, practice self care and reach out to your friends for support. You are not alone. As the summer is coming in hot some of us may be excited while you start to feel overwhelmed well just know you and I are on the same boat. Don’t feel bad, your emotions and feelings matter.
We are in this together. :)
