If there's rule that I live by it's to "always be myself no matter what and who's around".
I always advise everyone who struggle with people pleasing just like I did to always be yourself. Live your life the way you want, date the person you want, Travel to the places you want, marry the person you want, Have the career you want, have the pet you want, have the friends you want... Never let anyone chose your career, your friends, your spouse and never let anyone tell you how to live your life. If God allowed you to chose the way you want to live without forcing you to serve him then who else should decide for you!? If your own creator let you chose, what can us little humans do?. I used to want to please everyone when I was younger and I realize that's why I was so depressed! I wasn't living for me but I was living for other people. They would tell me go that school and I would listen, they would tell me pick those courses and I would do it without a second thought even if deep inside me I knew I wanted something else. They will tell me get rid of that friend and be friend with this person instead and I would listen, One time a lady came up to me and offered up her son to take me on a date and I agreed because I wanted to make that lady happy even though I had no interest in her son. If I didn't start living for me, I would have already been married with a man I didn't love only just so I could keep his family happy.
I started living for me in my late twenties, I remember this one time when I was 22 years old I decided to embrace my natural hair. At first I didn't know what to do with my hair because I have really coarse hair and I really didn't know how to style my hair or what products to use. One time I just wash my hair and let it dry then I simply put a hairband in it without any products, I thought my hair looked sooo cute so I took a picture and sent it to my mom. My mother hated it, she told me straight up I hate it and you need to straighten your hair. I hung up the phone cried that day and guess what I did even though I loved my natural hair? yes I put a relaxer in it to keep it straight because my mother hated it. I think that was the turning point for me, immediately after I put that relaxer in my hair I regretted it. Then I started realizing how much I was living for other people and I decided to stop, so I did. What I love about myself is when I decide to do something I will do it but I have to decide no one else can do that for me. I listened to a ton of podcast before about standing up for yourself and I nodded my head in agreement while I was barely standing up for what I wanted.
My advise for you is to always be yourself and it doesn't matter if people hate how you are, as long as you are not hurting anyone or breaking the law then be who you want to be. Be your weird self, have all the cats or dogs you want or any pet (except a pet snake that I can never get behind) , be loud, be quiet if you want, dance like no one is watching, and you can also chose not to dance that is your choice... never let anyone make you feel bad because of you are, so what you're shy? so what you're quiet? so what you're loud? so what you're super outgoing? be yourself babe and the right people will love you.
