Black women in childbirth.

Being a black woman in America is already tough because we go through the worse possible case scenario’s just to survive. But one thing that people forget to mention is how hard it is for a black woman when they are giving birth because for some reason the midwife or the doctor doesn’t believe us when we say that we are really in pain. 

I have watched many horror stories on social media from black women describing  their child birth experience and it pains me that they went through all of this because they did not deserve it. I thought the last place on earth we would get treated poorly would be at the hospital but oh God was I wrong! If you are a woman of color reading this please pay attention and if you are a husband please take care of your wife because these doctors probably won’t as much as they would for any other woman from another race. I don’t know why is it so hard for a doctor to believe us when we say we are in pain and that the baby is coming like right now!? Not only does the doctor not listen, but they don’t wait for the epidural to kick in they are so ready to slice us up open or shove their hands to reach out to get the baby! Like hold on dude ! So now you are in a hurry to get this over with but you weren’t listening when we  said we were in a lot of pain and dilated right?

If I am blessed to have my own baby someday I will choose my doctor carefully and I will have a talk with her or him before the delivery day because I need him or her to listen to me; to be by my side, to do whatever they can to make sure that I have a good delivery because this is serious ! I will make sure that my doctor and I have a level of understanding because if we don’t I’m going somewhere else until I find one that will listen. Be careful when you are choosing the doctor that will be in charge of the delivery on meet the staff as well because I will before hand to see what kind of place is this. They will find me annoying but if this is what I gotta do to make sure me and my baby get out alive then I will do just that.
