Fair play 

(This is a movie from Netflix) 

It’s about a couple who worked in finance and they both pretended not to be together while they are at work because they did not want to break the company’s policy. At first, the guy named Luke was so obsessed with Emily; he loved her to the point that he proposed to her. She loved him too and she trusted him; she stood by him through a lot and she was very patient with him. 

She was happy for him when she thought that he might be getting promoted, she celebrated with him but right after their boss call Emily late at night to meet. She went to the meeting and to her surprised she was the one who was promoted. She was a little sad at first to announced the news to Luke because she didn’t know how he would take it and she was scared about breaking his heart because she knew the job was important to him as well. 

Luke was shocked but he pretended to be happy for her; they were an engaged couple but their relationship began to take a back seat as Emily navigate through her job; she was Luke’s boss now and she was making more money than him. 

In a relationship where the woman is making more money the man’s ego tend to be bruised, it showed throughout their relationship. They stopped being intimate with each other even though she wanted to but he couldn’t give her what she wants because he was jealous of her. He begin obsessing about ways to get promoted on his own even though she offered to help him but he declined, but she tried anyway but Emily realize that the boss didn’t even like Luke and they were thinking about firing him; they never really wanted to promote Luke at all. 

Emily kept working hard but Luke started acting weird to the point where he tried to sabotage her job and told the whole company that they were together while Emily was conducting an important meeting. She was heartbroken and she tried to track him down; she found out that he was going to their engagement party that their parents were throwing that same night. She realize how out of his mind Luke was; she went to confront him about what just happened at work but he started telling her how she must have hooked up with up with the boss to get promoted she was so furious that she hit him with a beer bottle. As he was bleeding she became fed up and rushed to the bathroom he followed her and she confronted him once again telling him how much of a coward he was! And how she did deserve the job because she worked hard. Then they started to have intercourse but then he got a little too carried away and she begged him to stopped but he didn’t ! ( he raped her) and she had bruises all over her body ( I will give my opinion later keep reading)

She went to work and tried to explain to her boss that her and Luke was nothing… but she didn’t really have to because her boss didn’t care about that he told her to keep focus and to keep her head in the game. She went home and found Luke in the living room ready to leave with his stuff. He started telling her how he broke the lease and that he will move out and start his own company. She said «  you think I care about that?! Why aren’t you apologizing ? Why aren’t you begging for my forgiveness? » she told him how he raped her and how he tried to sabotage her job and to that he said «  we got a little carried away but let’s leave it at that » and she said «  no let’s not! » she picked up a knife walked up to him he tried to grabbed the knife but she was strong and he got his hand sliced she said «  said Emily please » say that you are sorry as she strike him with the knife again to which he begged her for forgiveness and he said he would do whatever she wanted she said «  I want you to wipe your blood off my floor and leave »! And she dropped the knife. The end !! Whewwww 

Now my opinion! 

Luke gaslighted her throughout the whole movie! He could not handle her success, he felt like a failure when she got promoted while he should have been happy for her because if he really loved her he would be happy to be by her side because they were engaged so her money was basically theirs. They could have been a team which is what she wanted! But he wanted to be the boss; he wanted to be the one to make more money all the while she didn’t care about all that. She loved Luke and she tried to make the relationship work but he could not accept the fact that she was succeeding.

He raped her and he didn’t even say sorry or begged for forgiveness but he begged the boss to get promoted! He cared more about his job than his fiancé. He didn’t love her! He loved his job. 

Emily is a boss by nature she is not a sheep she is wolf and lioness! She fights for what she wants and she works hard. She is very observant, she is sharp and she is all the things that he is not! He was jealous of her qualities and he wanted to be her. 

In a relationship if your partner is not supporting you, not giving you the love that you deserve please leave because it will not end well. If they make remarks that hurts please don’t overlook those remarks because that is how they really feel. If you are not married to the person then you are not  stuck so leave if it’s not working out.
