Controversial opinion, proceed with caution.

In my culture a lot of parents who have their kids in America choose not to teach them our maternal language so their kids never learn to speak creole. In a way I see it as a slap in the face! In my opinion Haitian Creole is a beautiful language. There as some jokes that I make in creole  that doesn’t sound remotely funny in English, creole is a very expressive language with very few words it gets straight to the point. 

I believe those parents do not teach their kids creole because they think Haiti is a third world country and they will probably never go there and they are also ashamed of it… that basically teaches your kids to hate their upbringing and they might even start hating who they are because they can’t be associated with the Haitian culture while they’re not even  fully Americans because let’s face it their origine stems from another country and not the U.S. I find it beautiful when a parent chooses to teach their kids the same languages that they speak. It creates a confidence boost it shows that you are not afraid of who you are and you embrace your upbringing. We have to teach our kids to love who they are and to take great pride in it. Stop making them feel  where they came from is disgusting because Haiti is a beautiful country without all the violence and if I could go back there I would. I am proud to be Haitian and I will never be ashamed of where I come from. I will teach my kids Haitian Creole as well as French because those are the languages I speak; they can learn English in school. I want them to be fluent in all 3 languages; I will personally teach them how… we will also take vacations in France to further implement the  practice of speaking more fluently.
