Earlier this year I came across very terrible news on my social media feed and I haven't felt strong enough to talk about it. I cried when I kept following this news and I can't wrap my head around it still. There was a very beautiful girl named Cheslie Kryst and she was crowned Miss USA in 2019 she was just 30 years old when she committed suicide this year on January 30, 2022, after jumping off a Manhattan building. I admit before this news I only saw her once as miss USA but she was an American Television correspondent and a model, she was very beautiful and from the outside looking in one might think that she had everything but did she? she had the brightest smile I have ever seen on anyone and she used to bring awareness towards mental health. She stated that she would frequently go to therapy and that she would unplug when she felt overwhelmed. She had high functioning depression, she would smile and pretend that she was happy when in fact something was probably eating her on the inside. (this is hard for me to write about) I often check her Instagram because I cannot believe that she is just gone! how? why? I've seen comments under her pictures saying "If I knew she was struggling I would've tried to be by her side and be a shoulder for her to cry on" those comments bother me a whole lot! because first of all that person probably doesn't know who she is and the fact that not even her own mother knew that she was struggling mentally breaks my heart. We are so good at faking that no one really knows anything about how we are feeling...this is the world that we are living because we think everyone has their own problems and we don't want to bother them with ours... In that song I was telling you to listen to she said " You don't have to be strong all by yourself" and you really don't because no one is perfect!
This news has made me so self-aware of what other people might be going through and also it is also a wake-up call for all of us to check on our friends even the ones that look happy or have everything so put together because these people struggle the most. Don't wait after a tragic event to say " Oh if only I was there for her/him more maybe I would've been able to help" don't wait if you know your friend is struggling call them, check on them and tell them that you love them. Let them know that you are here because sometimes all they need to know is that they are not alone. Some people might be too scared to reach out because they are afraid to take up your time and they might just resort to suicide...
most of us don't know who is really struggling in our friend's group but if you see certain signs that they aren't doing well then try to talk to them. Let them know you are here. You can't stop everyone who has suicidal thoughts from doing the act but you and I can prevent it. Let's all be attentive, loving, caring, and reliable because we might save someone from their own demons. Let's not judge.
