I love talking about natural hair on black women because our hair is just soooo beautiful and versatile. It pains me that some girls don't love their natural hair, if I have a daughter and I pray that I have one :) I will teach her the beauty in her hair and hopefully she doesn't see it as a burden. I used to see my hair as a burden when I was younger, let me tell you a little story...when I was in high school in my junior year, I was getting ready to go back to school and everything was ready except my hair! that time I had my big afro, and I had no idea what to do with it or what to put in it! so, I started crying because it was sooo dry and I didn't have the right products to make it pretty. I beg my brother to help me do something with it, so he handed me a wig :/ uhm? I never wore a wig before at that age and I didn't even know how to put cornrows on my hair, so I started to panic so then we decided to put a hair softener in my hair to make it more manageable and I was happy with the result. It wasn't my fault that I was panicking, and I had every right to because I didn't know what to do with my very coarse hair; it's a huge afro lol and I have to put products in it to smooth it out. I love my hair so much and in the past, I didn't see the beauty in it because I always had it in braids, permed, in wigs... now I love leaving it out and taking care of it. Today I have it in mini twist and I love it.
I want to leave it out and let it do its things because I've tried everything else except that!
