This is quite shocking on so many levels, I imagine someone's happiest day is when they've gotten a promotion, won a prize, or something bigger than what I am about to say...
Actually, the little things in life are what makes me happy; it's not money or wealth but things like a beautiful flower, a beautiful cat or a monkey -I do love monkeys- but today is the happiest day of my life because for the first time in many years I felt like my old self again and I felt peace so much that I wanted to relive this day over and over again, I hope there is many more to come. so what happened? here it is: I read a whole book today and that hasn't happened since I left high school; back then I used to read 3- To 5 books a week and I read more than 500 books a year... I was always reading but back then I used to read to escape my reality, so I started thinking maybe I didn't like reading as much as I did when I was younger but I was wrong. Reading is my solace, after spending the entire day reading I finally started to feel more at peace in the midst of my chaotic mind... I didn't expect the day to go this way but I now realize just how much I love reading, I never really stopped. I've been so busy with the trivial things in life that I forget the things that I love.
I hate electronics, I hate noise and I hate being addicted to anything that has to do with an electronic device because it drains my energy. But reading truly recharges my spirit. It was around 11 am when I open my phone searching for the new Gabrielle Union book titled " you got anything stronger?" but I wanted the audiobook version because I loved her last book " we're going to need more wine" audio because she has the most soothing, warm yet clear voice that I have ever heard, I love her voice and so I went to see if could rent or borrow her new book but no I have to buy it! I didn't want to spend $17 on a book today. I love buying books but today I didn't feel like buying it and I am glad I didn't because I stumbled across another book that I would have never picked out intentionally well maybe I would a few months from now but it was a total accident today and a great one! because I fell in love with it so much that I didn't care that it was a digital book, you already know how I feel about electronics... but gosh I could not put my phone down and I was at work! I drove straight home after work just to finish it! I forgot about everything I canceled everything just to read this book, I needed that because for so long I felt disconnected from who I am. I am the girl who spends the whole day nose buried behind a book, doesn't watch Tv, forgets where she puts her phone because she's reading and nothing else matters. I hated that a lot of things were making me feel distracted from the things I love well today I did just what I like and yes I am happy. I was reminded of how happy I felt when I read the catcher in the rye and how inspired yet incredibly sad I felt when I read the bell jar by Sylvia Plath... so many memories that I’ve push far in the back of my mind.
I will not do a book review on the book I read today because it is quite triggering and I am not ready to talk about it but I will definitely buy it as a gift to any woman going through a similar situation. well, I am going to look for another book now! goodnight :)
