confidence.

Publié par Gaelle.R

Let's start this year off like this, yup with confidence because why not?

Throughout my 2 in a half-decade on this earth, I've learned that confidence has nothing with beauty. You can be in a wheelchair and still exude confidence and look more attractive than someone standing on their own 2 feet. Confidence has everything to do with the way you carry yourself and see life in general, if you walk around all sad with your head down don't be surprised if no one talks to you and I am saying this from experience. When I am going through a depressive episode and I let my emotions dictate how I interact with other people, I don't initiate conversation and I can walk into a room and nobody noticed that I am there why?  because I don't look like I want to be there and I have so much negativity around my energy that no one really wants to talk to me. But if I didn't let my emotion shows this could have been a whole different experience. How can you look more confident and inviting?

1. Even if you're sad, going through a break up you can still fake a smile. I know the first time you start smiling it won't be genuine but that's okay at least you're trying to be positive and you're doing your best to interact with people even if that's the last thing you want to do. When you fake a smile believe me that soon enough you will find a reason to smile! Because when you give someone who knows you a fake smile they can tell you " why you're smiling like that where's my beautiful smile?" and soon enough you're smiling from ear to ear :) doesn't mean that the problem went away but at least you look more positive and people will want to be around you the more positive you are and hey maybe one of those people has a solution to your problem.

2. when you walk into a room with your head down, you deny yourself of your power. Yes, when you walk into a room with your head held up high and your shoulders back with an inviting smile on your face, immediately you look 10 times more attractive... it doesn't matter who was already in the room your confidence just makes a difference and don't be surprised if everyone is looking at you.

I know that it is easier said than done and that's okay if in the beginning you don't feel confident enough to walk into a room like you own it but practice makes perfect and I am still learning. When I was 50 pounds heavier than I have ever been my whole life I was not that confident, well that was last year and I would find myself declining invitation to go out because I didn't feel beautiful... but now when I look back at those pictures I took I say to myself "if only you knew" I didn't look as bad as I thought and all I needed was a bit of confidence.

3 keys to confidence.

1. the first thing you need to do is to love yourself the way you are. No matter if you are short or tall well let me tell you something I am not that tall I am actually 5'3 and some days I can look just over 5 feet but let me dress up with high heels on and step out looking like I am over 6 feet tall...yes high heels do give me confidence but I still need to love myself when I am not wearing heels with just my sneakers on or bare feet even because those are the times I am fully myself.  There are people shorter than me who are probably just over 4 feet and they are so powerful! so now, what's my excuse? short or tall it all comes down to your demeanor. If you are on a weight loss journey, don't forget to love yourself the way you currently look like yes enjoy the weight loss journey and still take pictures.

2. accept what you cannot change. All of us have something we hate about our body and unless we get surgery it will always remain like that and sometimes you can't even get surgeries for it. Instead of wishing you look any different start accepting your flaws and most of the time the things you hate about your body are something someone else wishes they had. So embrace all your flaws and quirks because when you do that no one else can make you feel bad about it.

3. Never compare yourself to someone else. That is one of the reasons why I left Instagram, I started to feel like I was comparing the way I look with other people and I was like 19, or 20 years old at the time and I didn't think that my body would change as I get older. Let me tell you something your body can change at any given time and your beauty standard can change as well so instead of comparing what you look like to those Instagram models or anyone else just focus on yourself and only compete with your old self. Remember there is always room to grow and those models never really look like their pictures so focus on yourself and try to be better than who you were before.

what this year has taught me?

Publié par Gaelle.R

To start, let me just say that this year has been one of the most unexpected years of my life, I've learned a lot more than I thought I would and that is a great thing. One thing that I can say is that mistakes aren't necessarily a setback they can be a good learning opportunity for you to grow and to become an exceptional human being. Make as many mistakes as you can and learn from all of them because no one can gain knowledge without experiences that they've been through or witnessed.

1. in January of this year I woke up one day and was surprised to see myself in a mirror, I was frightened and wanted to just disappear in the face of the earth. I am in fact a very dramatic person, I can make the littlest thing seem like the end of the world but I would not classify seeing scars and cystic acne on your face abruptly as a little thing; I had the utmost right to panic yet I remained calm and all I did was cry while I avoid looking at myself in mirrors. That experience has taught me that beauty from the outside is temporary and to never rely on my face or my body to be deemed beautiful because I can wake up one day looking totally different than what I currently look like. I really had to try to see myself in a new light and I had to learn to be kind to myself when I didn't want to be.

Moral of the lesson: you may not wake up one day with cystic acne on your face but something else may happen to you, not that I want anything bad to happen but in case it does remember to be kind to yourself and to be patient because your situation will change or at least you will get used to it... please always be kind to others and to yourself.

2. Getting a cat in February: I was so excited and I could not sleep the night before; I remember I was so over the moon I was afraid to go to the pet supply store to get food and supplies because I was afraid that the person who was giving me the cat to tell me that they had already given it away, that happened to me a few times. Thankfully that didn't happen and I did end up getting my beautiful boy Archie. I was so excited to finally be able to say that I own a cat because they are my favorite animal.

Moral of the lesson: you deserve great things, some things may seem impossible at the moment but if it is meant to be it will be. Enjoy the beautiful moments...

3. I never like to talk about the sad part of my life because I hate to be negative and to trigger a bad memory in someone's mind but at times sharing your bad experience can actually help someone to feel that they aren't alone and it may give them hope. Nevertheless, I have been extremely depressed this year especially in the summer and I really didn't want to keep going feeling the way that I felt; I used to cry a lot because the pain that I was feeling was so unexplainable and I felt like no one would understand me. I've felt alone before in my life but this year I've felt more alone because I had people around me but none of them understood me. One thing that helped me is finding out my personality type which helped me a lot because realizing that I process life differently made it easier for me to accept my emotions and not be hard on myself. I am not saying that taking a test to find out what your personality type is can cure your sadness or depression but it can surely give you a great explanation as to why you may feel the way you feel...

moral of the story: being sad or depressed doesn't mean that you are weak as Jim Carey would say " depression is your body saying that it needs a deep rest" and I completely agree because some of us have been playing a character for so long or tried to be strong for so long that when you hit your breaking point it could take you out of nowhere and all you can to do is sit and cry. Even if you're a man please don't listen to society saying you always have to be strong, just cry because some emotions deserve to be felt, and expressed.

There were many things that happened with friends, other people, and myself that I don't think I need to discuss because I am very private and if I have a problem with someone I would rather talk with them one on one or just write about it in my diary and move on.

This year I’ve felt the most hideous, cried the most, felt more alone and really wanted to die. Only to finally learn how to love life again and to be happy again at the end of it.”

silence is also an answer.

" instead of posting cryptic quotes on your story, or sending that long paragraph take a walk and turn off your phone. Let's normalize Walking away when you're not being treated with respect and not being given what you're worth, instead of begging for them to stay make them wonder if they even had you in the first place, or worse make them question their existence when they are in your presence."

" I will never be afraid to be kind even if the world has been nothing but wretched towards me, I dare to believe that somewhere even if it is far away there is someone whose intention is nothing but pure. The world can disappoint me and take every ounce of happiness that I have left in me but I will always believe in a better world where all is nothing but good."
