bad news

Publié par Gaelle.R

I have 2 bad news

  • My favorite uncle passed away 2 days ago, he was my dad's brother. They looked like twins, growing up I loved him so much. I called him dad before I called my real dad "dad" and my father was jealous lol. He has been really sick since 2020, he had Alzheimer's. He forgot everyone including me, it was really sad. I remember going to his nice house and spending the day there with him and my aunt. I wish nothing changed, I wish he still remembered me. I loved the way he said my name with his English accent. I didn't tell anyone only me and my mom knows... well now you know.
  • second bad news there was a shooting at a school event less than  2 minutes from my house! I saw it on the news. For the past few days all I see is news crew around that area and a little bit of traffic. My heart breaks for the affected family :( I wish school shootings would stop. ugh what a sad week it has been.

I wish you’d care.

I wish you’d listen when I spoke to you.

I wish you’d stay when I didn’t ask you to.

I wish you’d call.

I wish you’d talk to me when I’m distant.

I wish you’d love me.”

Reading powerful is bringing tears to my eyes because it’s the story of Adena! Paedyn’s best friend. Knowing what awaits her at the end of the trial and what her fate is makes me sadder when I see her making plans for the future knowing she won’t be there. The king placed her as a criminal to be killed at the end of the trial. Adena is not a criminal ! She wouldn’t even hurt a fly, she is very sweet and the happiest girl in the world.

Adena met Makoto and she fell in love no she tripped in love with him. According to her she doesn’t just fall in love! She trips because there’s no way to hold her back. Adena met Makoto the day Paedyn left to go to the palace for her trials. Adena tried to steal a sticky bun but she got caught because she’s not a good thief! She even apologized profusely to the merchant after she took the sticky buns! Only her would apologize while actively stealing food! She had nothing to eat. Paedyn was the one who used to bring food and now she’s all alone. Adena is a phaser she can walk through any objects but she doesn’t use her powers that often because she’s always afraid of what’s on the other side of the walls she’s phasing through. She met Makoto while running away from an imperial and Mak grabbed her, and ran through walls with her. She was shocked at first because she had never met anyone with the same power as her, she was excited but skeptical. Mak made a deal with her, she would make an imperial suit for him so that he can go to the castle and save a girl in exchange Mak would take her with him to see Paedyn. Adena agreed and she also asked him to bring her sticky buns every morning while she made the imperial suit for him.

Adena made the suit for him, then she found out how Mak was going to run away with the girl because he wasn’t a phaser, Mak has the same power as Kai who’s the prince and everyone thought Kai was the only one with the power to use everyone’s power. In reality the king made sure to kill everyone who has the same power as Kai so Mak wasn’t safe! He would be killed if the king found out. Adena was upset that Mak used her, but by that point Mak had already started to have feeling for her. When Adena went to the palace to be Paedyn seamstress, Mak followed her to try to explain to her that the girl was his cousin and he had to save her because she’s all the family he has left.

Mak left Adena at the palace, but the girl died in the trial. Adena kept seeing Mak outside of the palace, they begin to fall for each other but it was soon cut short when the king requested Adena to join him but if only she knew they would lock her in a dungeon. The following day she was killed at the trial right in front of Paedyn and Mak ! I cried reading that last chapter. I cried snot and tears ! I haven’t cried in a while but this book made me sob soo much… ugh I hate the king.

Next I will be reading reckless I will start it tomorrow, I hope to finish it by Saturday or Sunday.

I slept for 9 hours last night and I am glad I did because I was exhausted! I am almost done with another book, I wanted to finish it yesterday but I was way too tired from staying up to read Sunday night that I went to bed by 7pm lol I was just exhausted and my bed was calling my name.

I am watching less TV and using social media less because I am reading a lot more. My vocabulary is improving, I am remembering words that I used to know. My writing will definitely follow suit and improve. I love reading.

" If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything"

In the past, When I have a crush or when I find myself falling for someone who has no interest in me, I usually take a step back an reevaluate my life and I always find that I have no actual purpose. When you don't have a plan and you have a lot of free time, you will find yourself obssesing over someone and it's not really about the person it's about you not having any purpose in life.

Ask yourself if you wake up at 6 am what is one thing you would look forward to during the day? do you have genuine friends? a hobby? and ways to spend your free time doing things that would benefit you in the long run. When I like a boy for no reason it's always because I have nothing to do, now I am way too busy! I ahve to read, write, work out and train for a marathon...I don't have time to obssess over any man.

Powerless my personal take.

I love that book so much and to think I had it for almost 8 months now without reading it! what a shame! it took me 6 days to read it and I am glad that I did. I was engulfed in the world of ordinaries and elites, poor and rich, grieving and new beginnings... the ending wasn't quite what I was hoping for but oh it was worth it.

Paedyn is an ordinary meaning she has no power and Kai as the future enforcer killed ordinaries for a living. Kai is torn between being a good person and following his father's direction to kill every ordinaries. When Kai met Paedyn he tried to sense her power but he couldn't because she had none but he didn't know that so he made an excuse about whether he was too tired to feel anything. From the moment they met sparks was flying through the air, Kai was careful with Paedyn because he could sense how stubborn and headstrong she was. Kai admired Paedyn for her bravery and hard work, kai saved paedyn for the first time in the trials after she was stabbed by another contestant. Kai was a total gentleman and stitched her wounds and there came his famous line to paedyn " if you die I'll kill you" when I read that I was laughing!

One part that made me sob was when Adena died because the king picked her to be killed by one of the contestant as a way to complete the trial. The king only did that just so Paedyn wouldn't win because he knew she would never kill her own best friend. Blair killed Adena, I read the story of Blair and I like her in the book fearful but in this book I couldn't stand her! I hated the king, he was cruel and greedy. Paedyn had to leave her friend behind and ran, she felt like a coward for running but she had to leave before they discovered who she was. The king was so awful to his sons, he trained Kai way too hard because what do you mean Kai had to break his own bone to heal it himself in other to master the healer power.

Paedyn had to hide the fact that she was an ordinary so that no one would found out, while she was falling for kai she was also afraid of him because she knew he would kill her once he found out but guess what ? he didn't ! Kai found out at the end and he could not kill her even though she killed his father the king. I connected with Paedyn when she was having panic attacks in large groups or when she got flashback of her father dying...

Paedyn also had to get close to Kitt in order to found out where the secret tunnel was and once she found out, she stole the key on Kitt at the ball. I couldn't tell if Kitt was falling for Paedyn but I knew he admired her because she would tell like it is and she wasn't scared of Kitt at all even though he was the future king. But once the resistance infiltrated the trial at the end Paedyn could feel the betrayal in Kitt's eyes and yes she felt bad but she thought she was honoring her father by showing everyone the ordinaries were not the problem but the king was. Turns out the resistance lied to her and they tried to kill the princes and you know how much Paedyn loves kai and she also grew found of Kitt too.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

Reading this book changed my perspective on love, grief and friendships. This is the story of Kai and Paedyn Gray.

The story starts with Paedyn stealing sticky buns to bring back home to her friend Adena. They are homeless they lived in an abandoned building near a pile of trash, they sleep on the floor. Paedyn steals whatever she could find to keep both of her and friend alive. Her friend Adena sew clothes to sell at the market. Paedyn is an ordinary she has no powers, when the plague happened a lot of people got powers they were called the elites and the ones who didn’t have powers were called ordinary. The people who didn’t have powers were banned from the palace and were either killed because the king said the ordinary people were diseased and they were draining the power out the elites (which was a lie) the king wanted a strong kingdom with only people with powers, the elites. Adena was a mundane her power wasn’t as useful. But Paedyn had no powers, after her father was killed she ran away from home leaving her dead father behind because she was only 11 she couldn’t stay in the house. She became homeless and that’s how she met Adena. Before her father died he trained her how to pretend to be a psychic, Paedyn would try to make people believe that she had psychic powers but that was just the results of intense training with her father. She became really good at deciphering people’s secrets through observation, and some people believed she was psychic.

One day while on her daily run to steal food, shillings (which is money) she ran into a man and she saw that the man had a lot of money in his pocket so she bumped into him and stole half the coins because she didn’t want him to notice that she just stole from him. The man named is Kai he is a prince and the future enforcer or the head of the army. But Paedyn didn’t know that. She pretended to be nice to him but deep inside she hated every man who walked around with a lot of money and who was unwilling to help the poor. She kept walking after apologizing to the man. She then came back to that alley as she saw a huge crowd gathering around something that sounded like a fight. She saw the man she just stole from on the floor being beating by another man, the other man is a silencer he was silencing the prince which is basically draining the prince power before he could use it against the silencer. The prince was hopeless he was about to die but Paedyn stepped in, she got closer and fought the silencer. Then Kai came to his feet and the imperials came and arrest the silencer; Paedyn didn’t way to stick around she started walking away until Kai found her.

Paedyn and Kai had this playful banter it’s clear they both found the other one attractive. Kai thanked Paedyn for saving his life. Then Paedyn found out he is in fact the prince which was more disappointing to her because she hated the kind and his kingdom because of what they did to her father. While talking to her Kai tried to siphon Paedyn’s power but he couldn’t access it because Kai could feel other people’s power and use it as well. Paedyn explained to him that she is a psychic and no one can have access to her powers and surprisingly Kai believed her and let her go.

The next day Paedyn went to the market for her daily run to steal whatever she could find only to realize everyone knew what she did yesterday and how she saved the prince! They were calling the silver savior because she had silver hair. She then found out that her name was on the list for the next trial which is basically a competition where only the strongest survived. She had no powers how would she survived ? She lived in the slums, sure she could fight because her father trained her ever since she could walk, her dagger was her only weapon.

An imperial came and escort her to the palace after she said bye to her friend Adena. When she got to the palace she had a bed, hot water and food all the things she lacked for the past 5 years. She was locked in her room for 2 days then she went to dinner to meet the king, queen and the princes. She saw Kai again who was also competing in the trail, she also met Kitt the future king who is Kai’s brother. Both brothers are different kitt has blond hair with green eyes, and Kai has dark hair with gray eyes. She didn’t like kitt at first because he reminded her of the king because of the striking resemblance. The contestants get  acquainted before the trials. Paedyn asked for her friend Adena to come to the palace as her seamstress to make her a nice dress for the ball. Everyone was expected to wear green because that was the color of the kingdom but Paedyn couldn’t care any less she wore a silver dress instead and that got everyone attention. Kitt asked her to be his date and she agreed.

The trials were entertaining for the people but it was one more occasion for unnecessary blood shed and for the elites to show off their power. During the trials Paedyn and Kai got really close, Kai often saves her from dying multiple times. It wasn’t long enough before both started liking each other. Even if they denied it. Kai became a little jealous because his brother kitt started getting close to Paedyn but Kai never confronted his brother he always let him have his time with her.

Kai is not controlling and that’s why I love him so much in his head he would think of her this way:

“I will her to meet my eyes, and when they do—

Sparks.

Electricity.

Everything beautiful, everything bold, everything breathtaking—that is

what I feel in her gaze.

That, and terrified. Terrified of what she is doing to me.

She is a vision, a nightmare, a dream.

A grim reaper clad in black, come to steal my soul and my heart.

I’ve never seen something so beautiful, so bold, so blatantly wrong for

me.

She is a devil.

She is a deity.

She is a man’s downfall in human form.

She is my downfall.

Then her eyes drift to Kitt.

The connection snaps.

And I’m left feeling empty besides the jealousy growing inside of me.

Why did I ever think I could have her, ever think she would have me?

Because beasts don’t get the beauty.

The king disliked Paedyn because she got close to both of his sons and the

King told her to stay away from them because she was a bad influence on them only because Kai was helping her at the trials and the king hated that.

Throughout the whole story Kai never mentioned her body or even touched her inappropriately by the fact they never even kissed! By page 392 I was about to rip my hair out because they have this sexual tension! But no one does anything! At one point they were about to kiss mad they didn’t!

Finally on page 410 Kai somewhat confessed his feeling? I mean look “

I meant what I said. I can’t take my eyes off you. I can’t take my mind

off you.”

I look away from his burning gaze, shaking my head as I mutter, “Kai, I

—”

“Paedyn.”

I still. I shiver. He says my name like it’s sacred, like it’s an oath he’s

swearing.

He tilts his head to the side, eyes roaming over my face. “Tell me,” he

murmurs, “what do you want me to call you?”

My eyes slowly meet his, confused by his question. “What do you want

to call me?”

“I want to call you mine.”

We stare at each other. Both of us breathing hard, both of us taking in

the other. The rain is still splattering Kai, clinging to his thick lashes and

dripping from his jaw.

“I know you feel it too,” he says quietly.

“Feel what?”

“Feel alive. Feel on fire. Feel.” There is an intensity in his eyes, his

voice, that makes my heart race even faster. He looks away, cursing under

his breath before his gaze crashes back into mine. “Pae, when I look at

you...I’m devastated. I’m drowning. I’m dying to catch my breath.”

At the end of the of the last trial the winner has to kill the prisoner at the end of the maze. Paedyn was the first one to get there and when she arrived she saw her friend Adena, she shouldn’t have been there because she’s not a criminal

Another contestant got there and killed here friend. Paedyn is left crying and screaming, it was at this time the resistance came in through the tunnel

And took over. But they got overpowered and the a huge fight broke out Paedyn knew her cover was blown because she was the only one who knew about the secret tunnel after kitt told her, she ran out and while she was trying to escape  she came face to face with the king, they fought and the king told her Kai was the one who killed her father because the king sent him on a mission and Paedyn father was his first kill. Paedyn then killed the king and ran, but Kai found her.

Kai’s voice trembles like his hands. “I should bury this blade in your

throat.”

And he could easily do it too. I have no weapons, no will, no energy to

try and stop him.

My voice sounds as ragged as I feel. “Then do it.”

He’s shaking his head at me, looking just as disgusted with himself as

he is with me. “I will. I should.”

He grimaces as he grips the dagger aimed right at me. Another

frustrated sound tears from his throat. He runs both bloody hands through

his hair, shaking his head at the ground.

“Then why can’t I do it?” Now he’s staring at the weapon in his hand, at

the weapon he could easily take my life with. “Why is it that when it comes

to you, I’m suddenly a coward? Why is it that when it comes to you, I

suddenly care? Why is it that I can’t throw this damn knife at my father’s

killer!?”

His chest is rising and falling rapidly with each ragged breath. I, on the

other hand, think I’ve stopped breathing altogether when he says, “I told

you I was a fool for you, and it seems I was right.” His laugh is biting. “I’m

a fool when it comes to you.”

The next words out of his mouth are damning yet deceptively calm.

“Maybe when I rid myself of you, I’ll find my courage. So I’m giving you a

head start.”

I blink at him. My feet seem to be rooted to the spot. I don’t move an

inch, too shocked and startled to do anything but stare.

“At least you kept your promise. You stayed alive long enough to stab

me in the back.” He laughs bitterly, remembering the attack after the first

ball when I tended to his wound. “And now I promise to return the favor.”

His voice strains with emotion. “Run, Paedyn. Because when I catch you, I

will not miss. I will not falter. I will not make the mistake of feeling for

you.”

Kai told her to run because he could not bring himself to kill her. Kitt became king and asked his brother to bring him Paedyn gray! And the end for now lol

Update

I read 100 pages today in the book and I’m still reading, I plan on finishing the book tonight and I will come back here to tell you all about it. Trust me you will love it perhaps more than I do!

The book is captivating, enchanting and fascinating! I can’t put it down. But today is Sunday so I had to take breaks in between because I had to cook, wash my hair, clean, braid my hair and now I am doing laundry I took a small break to write this. I also do grocery shopping Sunday early mornings because the stores are practically empty since people are either sleeping in or going to church. I find myself with a few people on the aisles with my fresh produce.

When I come back here to tell you about the book your mouth will be held open and salivating at each of my words!

Reading list for the next 3 months

I plan on reading the powerless series then I will read the silent patient as a break. Then I will read another book series, the fourth wing trilogy. I think I should accomplish this by April? Well let’s check back next month to see how fast I am reading those books.

Currently I am almost done with powerless book 1. It’s 489 pages so it took me a while to ease my way into it. I started reading it on Tuesday, yesterday I read 100 pages and today I did the same. Tomorrow I’ll try to read another 100 pages it will be tough since I have to meal prep, wash my hair and do laundry… but I’ll keep reading I want to finish this book by Monday. Reading has always been an escape for me, ever since I was little reading has been my safe heaven. In high school when I was struggling with missing my mother reading saved me. When life gets tough a great story always welcomes me with open arms, I am just going back to my roots. Also I am on the fable app it’s a reading app to track my reading, I love it it’s keeping me on track and accountable. I set a goal to read 12 books this year but I hope to read way more than that…

Being avoidant with abandonment issues can feel really confusing — because those two patterns pull in opposite directions.

  • Avoidant side: “I don’t need anyone. Closeness feels overwhelming. I’ll handle it myself.”
  • Abandonment fear side: “What if they leave? What if I’m not enough? Why haven’t they texted back?”

So you might:

  • Push people away when they get too close
  • Feel anxious when they pull away
  • Crave connection but feel suffocated by it
  • Shut down emotionally, then later spiral privately

This mix is common in people with fearful-avoidant (disorganized) attachment — where both intimacy and distance feel unsafe.

Why this happens

It often forms when:

  • Love felt inconsistent growing up
  • Caregivers were sometimes supportive, sometimes unavailable
  • You learned that needing people = vulnerability or rejection

Your nervous system learned:

“Closeness isn’t fully safe — but being alone isn’t safe either.”

What it can look like in relationships

  • Overanalyzing tone or response time
  • Testing partners to see if they’ll stay
  • Leaving first to avoid being left
  • Feeling detached during conflict
  • Wanting reassurance but struggling to ask for it

What actually helps

1. Notice your pattern in real time

When triggered, ask:

  • Am I pushing away right now?
  • Or am I panicking about being left?
  • What am I actually afraid of?

2. Separate fear from reality

Abandonment fear is often about old wounds, not the present moment.

3. Practice small vulnerability

Not trauma-dumping. Just simple honesty:

  • “I get quiet when I’m overwhelmed.”
  • “Sometimes I need reassurance, even if I act independent.”

4. Regulate before reacting

When you feel like:

  • Ghosting
  • Picking a fight
  • Withdrawing

Pause. Breathe. Wait 20 minutes. Then respond.

Important: You’re not “too much” or “too distant”

This pattern is protective. It developed to keep you safe.

But what protects you in childhood can sabotage you in adulthood.

The goal isn’t to become clingy or hyper-independent.

It’s to feel safe being connected.
