I have many friends and I lost almost all of them at some point, I have had moments where I was depressed because I had no friends or anyone to talk to. Now I am used to everyone leaving me, it's sad but I expect everyone to leave. The moment they get too close to me, I know they about to leave and I find myself crying while the relationship is still good because I can already tell how much pain I will feel when they leave.
For me a good friend is not someone who talks to me daily, call me or text me everyday or someone who hangs out with me often... no those people always leave. It's someone who STAYS with me when times get rough, someone who holds me while I cry, hold my hand when I am having a panic attack, someone who cries with me. Laughing with people is easy, and staying when the time is good is super easy but will you STAY when it's bad? they always leave me when I have a problem and it's always around the time I am having a depressive episode. When I am happy I have lots of friends but when I get quiet and isolate because I am not doing good mentally no one cares...they just assume I don't want to be their friend anymore but it's the time I secretly hope they would break down my barrier and get inside my misery zone with me and hold me... but that's too much to ask so I let the connection die. The only person who ever stayed with me was my best friend from College Jennifer. If only she knew how much that friendship meant to me...
Most people leave, all that matters to me is who refuses to leave even when I have nothing to give. That's why I love my cats they never leave, they're the only constant relationship I have in my life besides the relationship I have with my mom. Sometimes I don't want to talk, I just want someone to be there.
