It ends with us.
I read this book in 2022 and when I first read it I felt like I was transported back into another world. I didn’t feel the same after reading that book!
The story is between Lilly bloom, Atlas and the man she married Ryle the charming neurosurgeon.
I cried reading that book! I took a few minutes to myself in between chapters. With the movie coming out this week I already know it won’t be as great as the book was. The movie came out last Friday and I haven’t made any plans to go watch it; maybe I won’t. I remember saying if I know someone who’s going through domestic violence I will give them that book. It is so real! Gut wrenching and soooo accurate to the point where I felt like I was part of the story somehow.
Lilly bloom owns a flower shop and she’s dating Ryle at first everything was great but one day while Lilly was hanging out with Ryle he straight up hit her across the face to the point where she lost consciousness and passed out! When she got up he tried to play it cool and try to put the blame on her by saying things like « if you hadn’t done that I wouldn’t have hit you » he would apologize ,buy her flowers, hit her again and the cycle would continue!
Until she even married him because she thought that’s the best she could do. One day she met Atlas at a restaurant while dining with her husband and friends, Atlas was an old friend she knew from high school. she was in love with Atlas back in the days. Now Atlas owns the restaurant she was eating in and he’s doing well for himself.
Atlas was homeless and he was always running away because his family would abused him. Lilly would make sure he has all the things he needed to survive, he would stay in a old abandoned house next door and Lilly would bring him food and blankets sometimes she would go as far as to have him climb in her room to sleep on the floor on a cozy bed she would make for him during the winter. They started to have feelings for each other and one day as all teenagers with raging hormones do when they are alone they had sex for the very first time and Lilly’s dad walked in on them and beat Atlas almost to death. The police came and took Atlas, they put him in foster care and Lilly never saw him again. Everyone at school was spreading rumors about how she slept with an homeless boy and she hated that! I mean it was true she slept with him and he was in fact homeless but Atlas was more than that! He was kind, beautiful, lovely, respectful and sooo gentle she loved him so much that so she would write letters. He loved her just as much, he never forgot about her.
Years went by and she’s almost in her 30s now, she’s married to a successful doctor and lives in a penthouse, she also owns a flower shop one could envy her! But she wasn’t happy. She was miserable with an husband who would beat her and she would hide her bruises from everyone. But one day she decided to run away and she ran right into Atlas arms, realizing how much she still loves him. But sadly she had to go back to her husband when she found out she was pregnant! Now a baby was involved she had to make a choice for her and her baby’s safety what would she do?
I don’t want to spoil it for you any more than I’ve already done lol just in case you want to watch the movie or read the book to find out! you should! And there’s another book that came after that “ it starts with us” it’s a really good series minus the sexual scenes I just skip those pages.
You know one thing I love about this book, even though Lilly was miserable she never cheated on her husband with Atlas even if emotionally she was bonded to Atlas she never acted on those feelings. I loved that about her, I loved that she waited !
